So what is the “server” part?
In MCP terms, a server is the component that exposes tools and data. Odoo MCP is the server that sits in front of your Odoo instance. The AI assistant is the client. When you ask the assistant a question, it talks to the Odoo MCP server, which safely fetches or changes data in Odoo and returns the answer.
What does Odoo MCP actually do?
Odoo MCP exposes your Odoo functionality as a set of safe operations an AI agent can use:
- Read and search — look up customers, orders, products, invoices, projects, and more.
- Summarise — turn raw records into answers a person can act on.
- Create and update — where you allow it, draft records like quotations, leads, or tasks for human review.

How is this different from giving an AI my Odoo API key?
